i'm pinning pinning pinning...

well, i'll be the first to admit i've been a late adopter on the pinterest thing but not because i didn't like it. i love pinterest! but i've been keeping all my inspiration private in my iPhoto. i'm keenly aware that one of the main things people pay me for are my ideas/thoughts and to know what i like. so...if i make all of that public, will i still get hired? but if i don't put myself out there, how would anyone know if they want to hire me?? (anyone else out there caught in the same conundrum? or better, yet--experience with what's worked/not worked for you?)

but i've decided to experiement a little and have finally started a pinterest account. my plan right now is to fill it enough to share my point of view and voice and hopefully entice clients to hire me but i still plan to keep my private iPhoto inspiration files going with my favorite ideas and keeping current projects offline. its really important to me to produce original work and, especially because so many of my projects are long term in the planning phase, the thought of people (particularly other vendors or creatives) doing what i want to do before i get to do it because i've spelled it out for them on a pinterest board is not appealing. nor is the thought of clients not hiring me because i've spelled things out for them in a pinterest board. but is it enough for most people to see a collection of images and read ideas, concepts, and plans from them? i love what i do and i love pinning and i'd love to just pin away but i also like getting paid for what i do so that i can keep getting to do it. :)

what are your thoughts on the situation? either as a vendor or from a potential client's side of the story? i'm curious....
