A January Workshop!

today i'm announcing the dates for my next workshop: January 6-9! it'll be a cozy winter workshop in the little house above (still at Serenbe, just in a cozier spot!), complete with a fireplace, and hot chocolate, and red wine.

now that i've done a few of these, i have to say, i've been surprised by how much i like doing them! (not that i thought i wouldn't like it--its just that i like it so much more than i expected!) its so rewarding to conncect with other creatives who are either just starting out on their professional journey or many who have been in business for years and are just looking to refine their skills or change direction. i can't tell you how fun it is to see real growth and feel like i got to be a part of it.

i mostly started these workshops as a response to emails from people who wanted to know more (a lot more) about what i do and how i do it. as i'm still getting a lot of those emails, i guess i'll do another workshop. i just realized recently though that if i'm going to do one next year, it kind of has to be in january. i'm having a baby (number 4!!) in mid to late february and then there's wedding season so....january it is! i hope some of you can make it!

here's a picture, taken by Ali Harper, of the last crew to attend....as well as some super kind feedback from a few of them (you'll see what i mean...some of why it feels so rewarding...) i love it!

Words can't describe how powerful this workshop was for me on a personal level. I really mean that. Joy's openness and willingness to share the story of her personal journey, the processes behind her success and the inspirations and motivations that power her created such a wonderful environment in which to learn and grow.  The casual atmosphere, the farm fresh food, and the surrounding nature at Serenbe was amazing. My notebook is full to the brim with tips, tidbits and observations and my heart is full of joy (no pun intended - but love that it worked out that way)! Even if I had learned nothing new (and rest assured, I learned tons!) during this workshop - it would have been worth every penny to just receive the affirmation and encouragement that she gave me. I consider the decision to attend Joy's workshop one of the best career decisions I've ever made.  I left feeling rejuvenated and inspired and I am so excited to infuse the inspiration I gleaned from this workshop into my business over the next year. Ever since I can remember, I've been hesitant to think of myself as an artist - and way too afraid to ever say that out loud. Joy has changed that for me and undoubtedly for countless others as well. I'm so grateful to her for being a trailblazer and role model for those of us who love to create art through styling, and even more grateful that she shared her talent and knowledge with us for those few blissful days at Serenbe!

I have been having the hardest time putting something so beautiful into words. Everything was perfect. The experience was all I had hoped for and more. I feel so blessed to have been a part of it all. I absolutely loved the atmosphere of Serenbe. The food was some of the best I have ever had. Connecting with so many like minded individuals was amazing and I am so thankful for the friends I made.

And to Joy, what I learned from you was truly priceless. Going into the workshop I felt like I had hit a wall in my work and in the way I was living my life. Hearing your story, process, and ideals was such an inspiration. I left feeling like I finally understood myself and it was as though a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I have since been on a creative high, so excited for the future and feeling extremely blessed for gifts I've been given. Thank you for teaching me the value of my creativity!
While I could go on forever about everything I loved, I wanted to mention a few of my favorite parts of the workshop. First, I really enjoyed watching the styled shoot for Once Wed. It was great seeing you and Ali in action! I loved learning from both Ali and Rylee and am excited to get back into film and work on some shoots of my own. It was great to see the dynamic between you and the photographers. I feel like I will be better able to effectively work on shoots with other photographers in the future.
I also loved the section on finding our voices, as well as the hands on experience we got with flowers. It was very liberating to be able to create anything I wanted.
Lastly, I felt like the one on one time was really beneficial. Getting your feedback on my work was incredible and has helped me to move forward in a positive and exciting direction. It's made me believe in myself in a way that I hadn't before and for that I cannot thank you enough. Words cannot express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the kindness, guidance, and support I received at your workshop.

I loved the workshop...the best I've been to in the business in terms of depth of content, especially when it comes to design. One of the most helpful things for me was studying images with Joy and the group. I realized that I need to put some real time into studying art more (and I'm excited to do so). It helped so much to learn some of the language, so that I can give a reason for why something isn't working instead of just 'this works/i like this/etc. The workshop was easily the best investment I feel like I've made in my business yet!
